Emergency Management
In the event that there is an emergency which compromises the safety, health and wellbeing of the students and staff of the school then, the emergency procedures will initiate an evacuation or lockdown of the compound based on the level of emergency assessed by the principal or designee.
The purpose of this Emergency Management Plan (EMP) is to:
- Ensure that the staff and students of St. George Secondary School know how to respond in the event of an emergency.
- Ensure that all people within the school, including students, members of the public, and all staff are safely directed in the event of an emergency.
- To develop a high level of efficiency in dealing with emergencies in an effort to minimize:
- injury to personnel (staff, students and visitors);
- damage to property;
- loss of life
Emergency Signs
Emergency signs will be posted in ALL ROOMS at the school. Teachers are to become familiar with the signs posted, and acquaint students when they are teaching about the evacuation procedures. Students should be reminded of this on a weekly basis.
Evacuation Procedure
- At least once every school term, an emergency drill is conducted to familiarise everyone on the compound with the correct evacuation procedures. The following procedures WILL be observed immediately on the sound of the alarm:
- All staff and students will gather their immediate personal effects, and make their way to the respective designated points as indicated in the emergency directions displayed in each room of the school.
- Students will queue in the classroom and proceed to their respective points under the direction of the teacher. On reaching their respective assembly point (Juniors/Seniors), students will assemble by form in year groups under the supervision of their form/subject teacher, who will: Record the total number of students present and report any students that are missing or left behind due to injury to the Senior Teacher;
- When signalled to re-enter safe areas of the school, quickly do so.
